Compare Styles¶
The Compare Styles tool compares all style settings in one document against those in another. Most organisations maintain one or more documents containing a master set of styles that all other documents are expected to follow. This tool helps ensure a document adheres to corporate style guidelines by highlighting differences from the chosen master set.
The comparison results are displayed in a two-column list of differences. Within each entry, only points of difference are listed. For example, the image below shows that Heading 3 has been adjusted to a font size of 11 points from the master setting of 12 points, but the name of the font used in that Heading 3 style is not listed, indicating that the font name itself has not changed. Similarly, Paragraph Spacing Before has been modified, but because Paragraph Spacing After is not shown, we know it remains unchanged. Other settings, such as Paragraph Indentation, Alignment, and Widow/Orphan control are also not shown, meaning they match the master document exactly.
