Exhibits helper¶
The Exhibits helper tool simplifies working with what are typically called exhibit marks in Word documents. An exhibit mark is a uniquely numbered or lettered reference to a specific exhibit. For example, an affidavit with three attached documents (exhibits) might refer to or “mark” them as Exhibit A, Exhibit B, and Exhibit C. Or it might mark them as JW-1, JW-2, and JW-3, where “JW” represents the initials of the person associated with the exhibits.
Regardless of the format, the underlying principle is that exhibits are numbered (1, 2, 3…) or lettered (A, B, C…) consecutively in the order they are first referenced in the document. Manually typing these exhibit marks is both inefficient and error-prone because any deletion, rearrangement, or insertion of exhibit marks requires manually renumbering all affected marks, including repeated references throughout the document.

The Exhibits helper allows you to:
-
create multiple sets of uniquely numbered exhibit marks within a document. Most documents require only a single set of exhibit marks, typically based on the initials of the person to whom the exhibits relate
-
select numbered or lettered exhibit marks, depending on your preferred or required format
-
start numbering from a value other than “1” or “A”, where required
-
easily insert cross-references to exhibits. The example above shows that a photo of an accident scene has been defined as an exhibit and also cross-referenced elsewhere in the document
-
easily change the exhibit prefix. All existing references, including cross-references, are automatically updated
-
record additional details for each exhibit, such as the exhibit date or the number of pages in the exhibit
-
generate a Table of Exhibits in a format you define, including using the custom data values such as the dates and page numbers for each exhibit.
