Ribbon builder¶
The Ribbon Builder tool allows you to customise the Word and Outlook ribbons. Using this tool, you can:
-
modify the supplied I-Deal Docs ribbon tab. For example, change the wording on the buttons, adjust the button sizes, and remove buttons for functions that your organisation does not use
-
create additional ribbon tabs and add groups and buttons to launch functions specific to your organisation
-
add groups and buttons to built-in ribbon tabs. For example, add buttons for commonly used templates to Word’s Home tab. Buttons can be arranged in a drop-down format to save screen space
-
remove groups from built-in tabs. For example, remove the default Styles group from the Home tab and replace it with a customised group reflecting your organisation’s style setup.

Typical buttons that might be added to a ribbon include:
-
run a custom macro – execute a macro you have created
-
run a built-in Office command – a list of all available Office commands is visible during ribbon design
-
run an I-Deal Docs command – a list of all I-Deal Docs commands is visible during ribbon design
-
apply a specific Style – quickly format text or paragraphs according to your organisation’s style guidelines
-
insert a specific clause library item – add a predefined clause directly into your document
-
launch a specific document – launch a document from your network or Document Management System
-
display a cascading drop-list – show all folders, subfolders, and files starting from a specified folder for easy navigation and selection.
You can control virtually all visual attributes of your buttons, including:
-
button text – the wording that appears on each button
-
button size – choose between Office’s large or normal size
-
button image – select from thousands of images included with Office or from the 2,000 extra images provided with I-Deal Docs
-
tooltip – the text that appears when the mouse hovers over a button.
